Recommended Price AUD25.00

Heart disease is still the leading cause of death worldwide.

That’s despite billions spent on research over 100 years, statin drugs in use for 40 years and major advances in acute care. Today, more people have heart disease than ever.

Yet, many researchers and cardiologists say there are practical ways to avoid 4 out of 5 cases – that don’t involve procedures or taking drugs for life.

This eBook shows you how much control you can have over your own heart health – based on research from over 600 published sources. In 164-pages, this concise eBook:

  • Charts the history of heart disease and why it’s increasing;
  • Shows how standard treatments can do more harm than good;
  • Examines the causes of heart disease and how to avoid them;
  • Gives you 8 practical ways to avoid, treat or manage the disease – without procedures or drugs.

This eBook cites all sources directly, with clickable links for easy checking. Also, you buy once and access any future updates we may make.

It explains the science in plain English – so you can weigh the evidence, make up your own mind and have confident discussions with your health professionals.

“…of the 19 million prescriptions written for statins every year in this country, probably 500,000 to a million are necessary. The other 18 million shouldn’t be prescribed. – Ross Walker, Australian Cardiologist & pioneer of the CAC (Coronary Artery Calcium) score.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kim Brebach is a baby boomer and veteran information researcher and writer in technology. He’s also passionate about cooking whole food and drinking quality wine.

Over decades working in IT, BioTech & MedTech with companies like Silicon Graphics, Novell & Roche Diagnostics, Kim researched & wrote hundreds of papers to make complex concepts easy to understand. Many say they’re a joy to read.

In the 90s, Kim’s first wife developed COPD, a terminal lung disease. Searching for ways to ease her suffering, he discovered troves of health & medical research that none of her doctors seemed to know about. Much of it was about preventing disease, rather than trying to cure it once it had taken hold. After her death, Kim kept his finger on the pulse of preventative medicine research.

30 years on, Kim translates the latest disease prevention research into short, snappy eBooks. They’re focused on the diseases that keep boomers awake at night like dementia, cancer, heart disease and diabetes. The ‘anti-diet’ is a bonus. It came about when this research keep hammering the need for real, whole food. Showcasing skills honed over decades, Kim transforms dry research into engaging ‘who-done-its’. Science has never been so enjoyable to consume.

Kim’s not a health or medical expert but he’s found thousands who are – and provides direct links to them all in his eBooks. You can read Kim’s full story here.

  1. Tom D

I’m a retired GP and I found your eBooks on dementia and heart disease very illuminating.

    • Tracey James

Thank you so much for sharing this view, Tom. We treasure feedback like this from the medical profession.

  2. Sebastian Giuliano

Three months on and I must say I’ve learnt a lot about food, sleep, exercise, fitness and how to navigate through a supermarket!
I have not given up my cheese and wine but I definitely have almost eliminated processed food and cut down lots of carbs and hidden sugar. The result…….my doctor is happy with all my blood test results and is off my back about statins! I was at a fairly healthy weight but I have improved it considerably without feeling that I’m missing out.
As I said in my last review I enjoyed the ebook very much with the added humour and the very interesting statistics.
Im due for a refresher reread! Thanks again Kim and Tracey.

    • Tracey James

Wow, Sebastian, that is fantastic news! Kim and I these with you – high fat, low carb, gourmet food and disappearing kilos – all the while with perfect cholesterol levels. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful news.

  3. Cathy Hopkins

I have finally finished the Heart book and the Dementia and diet book. Fabulous reads, so much I never knew and a great confirmation of things I did know. I’ll be doing some HIIT, getting some blue cheese and several other things you’ve mentioned. Great work, and thanks again!

    • Tracey James

Well, that is fantastic news, Cathy! Thank you for sharing it – and for trusting us by buying these eBooks. Kim is thrilled!

  4. Robyn W

An excellent read and reference. Such a comprehensive coverage of every aspect of the topic, thoroughly researched, and with that touch of hope we’re all needing.
The content is so well written and also carefully packaged to make essential information accessible. Thank you!

    • Tracey James

We’re so glad you found it useful and easy to read. That’s exactly what Kim was hoping for.

  5. Joan D

We have found your book very informative and even though most of it confirms what we thought it was good to know that you agreed with our findings!
The information on the medications was very helpful and again what we expected!
Lifestyle changes we are trying to improve and a few simple dietary changes hopefully will help
My husband had stopped the statins some years ago (much to his doctors dismay) so we can only hope that damage is limited.

    • Tracey James

Thank for for sharing your experience, Joan. We hope the damage is limited, too.

  6. Mal

I couldn’t stop reading this until I finished it, so informative I’m stopping statins today, thankyou.

    • Tracey James

Thank you, Mal, but pls consult your doctor before making any changes. We’re not qualified to give medical advice.

  7. SSS

I have just finished this ebook – fabulous, so informative, well researched and referenced and scary if not utterly terrifying!
I am 75 and have a science/biology background. I worked for over 30 years for pharma companies managing and monitoring clinical trials of new drugs, many of which you name here. In phase 3 clinical studies, the aim is to establish efficacy for treating the disease and obviously safety. It is only once the drug is on the market, being used by potentially millions of patients that unknown adverse events come to light so I understand what you are saying.

    • Tracey James

It is so reassuring to us to hear from someone from inside the trenches. Thank you!

  8. I Wells-Patterson

I saved your amazingly referenced book to iBooks and read it today on my iPad. I was pleased that I am already doing most of your strategies. It was very reaffirming. I love it. All the good stuff in a nutshell. Very succinctly written, a pleasure to read.

    • Tracey James

We’re so glad we could reaffirm your practices and that you found it easy to read. Kim will be delighted!

  9. Gail Maier

Dear Kim & Tracey, This is an excellent e-book with so much interesting information that is invaluable to me as well as many others. I had been hearing about the side effects of statins, but never thought I would be one to have to make the decision of whether to take statins or not take statins. Unfortunately I had an unexpected stemi heart attack & the cardiologist who put a stent in to prevent a further attack, told me that I would have to take them for the rest of my life if I didn’t want to have another heart attack. I have since changed to a different cardiologist whom I have yet to see, but my first question will be how can I stop taking the statins safely because my liver count has already risen above my normal reading & its only been 3 months. Thanks to your e-book, I am now armed with knowledgeable facts to present in my favour to find an alternative that doesn’t come with bad side effects. Before my heart attack, I did not have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, nor was I overweight & I never eat between meals & usually eat very healthy meals although I occasionally treated myself to something not quite so healthy, but even so, I did have a 90% blockage in a main artery known as the widowmaker. I am now looking forward to changing my diet to Mediterranean style foods. Thank you both for all the research you do for our health benefit.

    • Tracey James

Thank you, Gail, for you kind feedback but, I’m afraid, we can’t give medical advice. We’re not qualified to – we just find, translate and share research. That said, not all cardiologists are created equal, it seems. From what we’ve read, functional or integrative cardiologists (like Ross Walker (AUS) and Aseem Malhotra (UK)) might be more open to alternatives to statins than interventionist cardiologists. In any case, we strongly recommend against making any changes until you’ve seen a cardiologist.

  10. Cora P

I love the presentation of the book. It is easy to absorb the facts without becoming overwhelmed. For me the information you provided about Xarelto is invaluable. I was prescribed it and was completely unaware of the class action in the USA.
Keep up the great work you are doing…you are an inspiration in getting the positive back into people’s lives.

    • Tracey James

You words have made our hearts sing! Thank you, Cora.We can’t tell you how much we appreciate feedback like this.

  11. G Neill

I like that you can put well-researched facts together, and through your platform, reach out to those boomers who are surrendering themselves to the inevitability of cancers, diabetes, dementia, and bemoaning the fact that they are putting on weight, can’t be as active as before, are forgetting, aching and too old to change. I would really like them to know that it is not too late (nor too early) to look to the future.

    • Tracey James

Thank you for your kind words, Gen. Yes, it is great to know we’re not too old to look forward to better things.

  12. Jan Mac

I read the whole book last night – Wow! My friends think I am a bit of a health nut but reading your book I realise I am on the right track…. Honestly, I am blown away and it is so easy to read. Well done. I am recommending your book to my friends and I will spread the word.

    • Tracey James

So glad you found it so easy to read! Thank you, Jan.

  13. Sebastian

    Hi Kim and Tracey.
Fantastic book. Good education for me. The statistics were amazing. The insight to all the good and bad foods is very helpful “prevent instead of treat” was the theme throughout the book and the key points about cholesterol’s role in heart desease (or lack of) is very helpful in my decision making going forward. I also enjoyed the bits of humour here and there.
    Thanks, great book.

    • Tracey James

Thank you for your wonderful feedback, Sebastian. Kim and I are really thrilled that you enjoyed it, including the touch of humour!

  14. Michelle S

My doctor was surprised that my cholesterol has gone down. I’m not prepared to tell her what I’m eating, not yet, anyway!

    • Tracey James

We’re in the same boat, Michelle. We eat quite a high fat diet – and have done for 25 years – and our cholesterol levels have been near perfect the whole time.

  15. Catherine S

Since I gave up statins, I’ve noticed that my muscle pain and brain fog have eased. Hey, it may be the better food I’m eating or wishful thinking, but I’m going to stick to this.

    • Tracey James

That is fantastic to hear, Catherine. Thank you for sharing it.

  16. Chris M

How can these drugs be so bad for us? Why aren’t our doctors telling us?

    • Tracey James

We’re not qualified to give advice but we assume that doctors don’t have time to monitor developments of all the drugs they prescribe, especially when they’ve been in use for so long.

  17. S Everinghham

I’m eating differently and managing chronic things differently. I can’t be sure I’m reducing my risk of a heart attack, but I’m feeling the best I have in years.

    • Tracey James

Thank for these wonderful words, Sue. So glad it’s working for you.

  18. Rob W

Thank you so much for writing this book. It has helped me to help Mum and also informed me of what I need to look out for, for myself in the future.

    • Tracey James

We’re so glad the eBook was of use to you, Rob. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with others.

  19. J Eather

I’ve heard of Ross Walker and his calcium score and doubted what you said he said about statins, until I checked. Why aren’t more people talking about this?

    • Tracey James

An interesting question, Jenny. Walker has been saying this for some time and he’s not alone. That said, if you google statins and heart disease, hundreds of results will come up supporting their use. That’s why this research is so hard to find and why so few people are talking about it. I guess if they found it, they would!

  20. Lisa R

After reading the section on statins I asked my doctor about them. I was surprised that she was willing to reduce my dose. She also said that, maybe in time, I could stop them altogether. I wonder how many other patients ask?

    • Tracey James

Thank you, Lisa. We hear this a lot – especially that doctors are not asked very often to review medications but are quite happy to when they are.

  21. M Kirkwood

You are a champion for good. I am grateful for your authenticity and sound health research.

    • Tracey James

Thank you so much for these kinds words of such encouragement!

  22. Carolyn T

Thanks for a very well researched book, gives me hope! Lots of practical ways to improve and holistically rather than the very narrow drugs approach that unfortunately most GPs follow and those that don’t are impossible to get into.

    • Tracey James

Thank you for your kind words, Carolyn. You’re right about the holistic guys being hard to get into – more is the pity!

  23. Lorna Hayfield

The section on statins was shocking. In fact I didn’t believe it until I clicked through. My doctor isn’t going to believe this, for sure.

    • Tracey James

Yes, Lorna, we hear that quite a few doctors don’t believe it but, then again, they have very little time to research the long term effects of drugs that have been staples of standard care for decades. Maybe if they did, they might change their minds. Some have.

  24. S Edwards

Thank you so much for your book. It was such an affirmation of what I knew with new perspectives and ideas as well. I am always open to new health ideas and read voraciously on it. So many things you cited, and so much sensible advice. It really resonated with me. I will be passing on its merits, and where to obtain it to others you can be sure.

    • Tracey James

So glad you enjoyed it and thank you for recommending it to friends. We really appreciate that.

  25. Wendy D

Have downloaded and read all three of your books. Great reading and love all the links to real data and factual information to back up your content. Thanks so much for writing these books. I’m recommending them to others.

    • Tracey James

Thank you for your kind words and recommendations. We really appreciate both!

  26. Margaret Shaw

Well, I wasn’t planning to spend my Saturday afternoon reading, but it happened again! Couldn‘t put this ebook down.

    • Tracey James

So glad you found it so compelling, Margaret! We were a bit worried because it is quite a bit longer than any other of the eBooks. Thank you for sharing this.

  27. Gary T

I have a background in fitness for over 20 years having run a training college to train personal trainers, some 30 years ago. I haven’t reviewed material for ages and your indepth research brought back information from that era. Your research brought up old theories I was trained on and unleased new research that is so critical for the general public to understand and get their health & fitness in check. Its so important but many prefer to take a drug which never ceases to amaze me.

    • Tracey James

Thank you, Gary. It never ceases to maze us either! Thank you so much for your kind words.

  28. Sue MacDonnell

I’m going to have to read this again. I’m in a state of shock.

    • Tracey James

We were too, Sue. There is a lot to take in so a second read may be very helpful. Thank you for your feedback.

  29. Paul W

I found this ebook really demystified heart disease, especially all those names for the same things. I am finding it much easier to understand other articles on this now.

    • Tracey James

So glad you found it so useful, Paul. There is certainly a LOT of terminology in this space.

  30. Andrew Johnson

This heart disease ebook is an excellent concept and you’ve achieved a first-class result.

    • Tracey James

Thank you so much for your positive feedback, Andrew. We really appreciate it.

Just purchased a mixed case from Kemeny’s on your advice – and saved an amazing $119 on one order. Can’t wait to see how much I save in a year.

Brayden M
Very happy to pay this small fee for what is the best weekly wine mailer on offer. Keep up the great work.

Huon Hooke, Wine Writer & Critic
Kim is an outspoken defender of truth, justice and value-for-money in wine and I highly respect his opinions, his passion and his convictions.

Chris L

The big surprise, as you say Kim, is there is literally no relationship between price and quality in the wine world. The $10 Azahara you recommended for our farewell party was ridiculously good.

Clive Davidson

Lisa and I have an annual Xmas dinner for twenty of our closest friends and your BWW delivers the goods every year. Not a bad bottle ever. Keep up the great work, mate.

Warren Mason, Competition Director, Sydney International Wine Competition
Huge devotion! Weekly updates! A really useful consumer service. You deserve all the goodwill you have.

David Jackson

I would never have found the Dandelion Vineyards Wonderland of the Eden Valley Riesling at Aldi for $15:00. I was down to the last two bottles and they had cost $20. Well done, Kim. Happy to recommend BWW to any person who wants fair, balanced ratings on good wines and where to buy them at bargain prices.

Carl Shipton

Didn’t know some of the wines, but I was blown away by the quality available for this kind of money. I’ve paid a lot more for labels I know and been hugely disappointed.

Peter Bourne, The Wine Man
Kim is a fearless advocate for truth and value  for wine consumers. Follow him and you’ll be informed and entertained, too.

Bec C

Last year I used your Best Wines advice to pre-order 6 months’ supply of wine to be shipped to me overseas. What a treat! Thanks for the great resource, Kim!

Alan E

Congratulations on a great and informative newsletter. It’s been a wonderful help in choosing good quality, reasonably priced wines. I never miss miss a week now.

Darryl Pratt, Wine Direct
The guys I deal with all respect your opinion and unbiased approach, as I do.

Peter Calder

I buy wine for about a dozen families, for a company and for myself, with current cellar stock 1500 bottles. Your advice is a highly valued and reliable bench mark and, by the way, I am not a connoisseur collector but a consumer. I say drink and enjoy (in moderation of course)!

Bill Walter

I continue  to buy and taste  on your recommendations and thoroughly enjoying the experience and to date, not one disappointment. Don’t plan to retire soon!

Phil Harris

Congratulations, Kim. You’ve been an invaluable source of information and I have no doubt that I am drinking better wine as result. Having only lived in Australia for 5 years, you’ve really given me an appreciation of how much great wine this country produces. So much so that I now can take a bottle to dinner with friends who have many more years of wine experience than myself and even raise a few compliments on my selections. Safe to say I think you can a lot of the credit for that!

Nick Page

Been looking for years for someone who concentrates on the value end of the wine market. It’s written from the right perspective and reduces the legwork needed to find good wines. Thank you.

Doug B

You have a gift for wine description that mercifully avoids all the bullshit about the aromatic nuances of pear skins and Virginia tobacco leaf … Enjoying the prices, too.

Brodie Scanlan

You do great work and I wouldn’t miss your Weekly for quids. We’ve bought many 12 packs based on your lists and every bottle has been a hit.

Stuart McC

Since I subscribed a month or two ago, I’ve used your alerts to guide all my wine buying and they’ve all been good choices. Now I find myself looking forward to reading the mailer on Friday afternoon.

Sarah P

A brilliant service, takes all the leg work out of choosing great wines.

Aunty Jack

I read with great interest every week all the wines you recommend.  I am a big fan of Riesling especially Leo Burings but have enjoyed your other recommendations Frogmore, Claymore and Heemskerk.  I buy all my wines through Kemenys as I like to support the independent wine suppliers.

James T

Bought some of the Hilltops Shiraz (hidden label) from Kemenys after reading your recommendation. Excellent choice. Love your mailer. Thanks.

Graham S

Four times my annual subscription saved in one transaction! How good is that, Kim?

Lambert D
I’ve ordered a couple of 6-packs from your great list of value wines. I have about 500 wines racked up in my cellar but continually need drink-now wines for daily consumption.  However, some of your suggestions are making me wonder whether I need to buy more racks … Thanks.

Kellie Grove
I impressed my husband…..I bought the last 6 bottles of 2015 Lizzie at our cellar.  I have also introduced him to your website.  He was very amused with some of your comments. He is now looking forward to your weekly email, too.  Keep up the great work.

Tim Humphries

Thanks Kim, what a ripping mailer. I suspect my bank account will suffer, but the quality of wine will improve and my stockpile might also grow!  Thanks again.

Keith Hockly
Emailed Darryl from WineDirect re the shiraz special and got a call back within ten minutes to organise the sale. Friendly professional service. Glad I signed up.  Impressed so far!

David Klease
I usually avoid South American wine like the plague. However I went on a limb and trusted your advice on  Montes limited selection in today’s Friday mail out. For $10, it is very, very good.  Nice work Kim!!

Keith J
I enjoy your weekly email immensely and purchased a case of Wynns Coonawarra Cab Sauv from Winestar in a seamless transaction. I’m your latest fan.

Thank you for your weekly wine newsletter. BWW has become an important part of my life.

Clive D
Great work on the mailer – provides a great service to those of us who have never really developed their expertise. We need to be saved from ourselves and our irrational way of making wine purchases. Really enjoy the price/quality ratio.
